“Quite possibly the best brownies I’ve ever tasted….”

Yet again another brilliant review about my delicious homemade brownies! Check out Camilla’s blog Be Gluten Free – Brighton for the rest of her review on my brownies, which make perfect gifts for all the family and your friends!

Camilla also has a lot of other information on eating out (gluten free) in Brighton so for more information check her blog out!

“Review of Have Cake Brownies

When I was asked to review these brownies I was very excited because a) I love brownies! and b) I haven’t had an amazing brownie since being gluten free. The supermarket brownies I have had so far, have been nice but pretty standard.

After looking on the Have Cake website, I had a lot of hope for these!

So, on a slightly miserable Friday, a box of Have Cake gluten free brownies were delivered to my office & certainly cheered up my rubbish day (I wish this would happen every day!).
The brownies came beautifully wrapped & presented in a generous box of 9. They were wrapped in lovely blue tissue paper with a ribbon, it was like opening a present!

These would make a fab gift for anyone gluten free or not gluten free and they also do vegan.
In the box were some peanut butter ones & some white chocolate chunk and they didnt disappoint. I must say that these are quite possibly the best brownies I’ve ever tasted, gluten free or otherwise!

They are really moist, sticky, delicious, smooth & crunchy all at the same time – the texture is perfect.
I love the chewiness of the brownie contrasted with the crunch of the white chocolate chunks & peanut butter.
The peanut butter brownies have a brilliant swirly pattern, very pretty!
The most important factor with these brownies is that they don’t crumble which a lot of gluten free cakes do & that drives me mad! Also, they are a really good size.

I would definitely want to try the other flavours and think they would make a great gift for friends and family (or myself!).

But beware, mine didn’t last longer than the weekend and I want more already!

Amazing Review of my Brownies!

I received a great review about my brownies last week and wanted to share it with you to show just exactly what people are saying about my delicious brownies!

Saara writes The Gluten Free Student Cookbook website which is full of recips, reviews and other helpful information about dealing with eating a gluten free diet, but without missing out on those delicious treats you thought you may never be able to eat again.

This is what she wrote about my brownies -

I was really excited to review HaveCakes gluten free and vegan brownies!

One thing you should know about me is that I love, love, LOVE my brownies but it’s sometimes hard to find those gluten free brownies that have that ‘home baked’ taste. I’m lucky that my local supermarket, Asda, produce their own gluten free brownies, but I find they lack that ‘home made’ taste and are actually quite dry!

So, when the huge box of brownies arrived at my door, I was quite surprised at how big the box was! I did pause for a moment to think whether I’d inadvertently ordered myself new shoes! I just loved the way the brownies were packaged. With coloured tissue paper and a cute bow, this made them ideal as a gift for your coeliac and free from chums!

I was also impressed at the size of the brownies!

As you can see you get your moneys worth and because you get 9 whole brownies in a box it also explains why the box was so huge – great value for money!

So What Did They Taste Like?

They had that ‘home made’ taste that I adore from gluten free bakes! They were chocolatey, light, moist without that horrible crumbly texture that tends to plague gluten free baked foods! What’s more, because I shared them with my family, they couldn’t believe that they were gluten, dairy and egg free! Even my ever so fickle brother loved them and trust me when I say this – he’s very fussy with his food. In fact he’s the one who ate most of the brownies and wants to order more!

Plus don’t take my word for it, if you check the HaveCake Brownies website, you’ll find amazing and glowing reviews from coeliac and  free from peeps who have been lucky enough to try these amazing brownies!

So Who Are HaveCake?

HaveCake is run by the lovely Louise  who has been a passionate baker from a very young age. She started baking traditional recipes for friends and family who encouraged her to set up her own business selling her own cakes and brownies. So when a friend with coeliac disease asked Louise if she could make gluten free brownies as everything she had tried was bland,  too sweet, or too dry, Louise set about experimenting with all recipes until she came up with one her friend could enjoy – and I think she definitely succeeded, they’re amazing!

How Do I Get These Amazing Brownies?

You can order a box of 9 gluten free or gluten free & vegan brownies directly from the HaveCake website. They also come with free delivery and if you order before the 30th September 2012 you’ll also receive 5% discount using the code: ”GFSTUDENTCOOK

Find Me This Squirrel…And Win a Box of Brownies!

Think of a caption for the photo below and you could win yourself a box of brownies…It seems I’ve made a new friend, or an enemy, I’m not quite sure which yet.

For the past few days I have noticed a squirrel running over the walls and around the courtyard.  I think he can smell the peanut butter brownies wafting from the oven!  I know some of my neighbours often comment about the delicious smells coming from my home.

This pesky little squirrel doesn’t seem to have any fears about walking right up to the back door and almost ventured into the utility room had I not seen it.

When I was much younger we used to have a squirrel come to our patio doors and take nuts from our hands, the next minute we knew – there was a nest of them chewing through the wooden beams and rafters in the roof and scampering around during the night causing havoc and keeping you all awake.  My Dad managed to block the gap under the eaves with metal so they didn’t return (after the babies had all moved out as we are a bit soft).

Some months later a young couple knocked on the door at 2am shaking with fear asking if they could borrow the phone as they had a burglar up in their attic making all sorts of commotion.  My Mum said it was probably a squirrel, but they were reluctant to believe that squirrel could make such a commotion, so my mum let them call the police from her phone before they went back to await at the front of their gate…..as we thought, no burglars. Just lots of squirrels! The police must have loved writing that report out!

Anyway, as soon as I told my sister that this squirrel was tapping at my back door trying to get at my brownies, she came running round with a bottle of squirrel repellent. My sister, who lives 2 doors down from me and being an avid gardener, has had to pick out empty peanut shells on numerous occasions from her beautiful plants so is extremely keen to get rid of this pest.

Well, as you can see from the below photo, after spraying my entire garden and all around the back door with this “squirrel repellent”, the squirrel was back….

So many words came to mind!  Some are unprintable!  Therefore – I’ve decided to hold a competition to find the best caption for this photo.  Put your caption here, or on the HaveCake Facebook Page and in 14 days I will decide which is the cleverest, wittiest, funniest caption and after I’ve had a good chuckle I will send a box of brownies over to the winner.

Louise xx

Cake and Bake Festival Brighton

Hi All,  After my appearance running the Have Cake Stall in the Brighton Cake Festival, so many people asked me how I got on so I thought I would mention it on the HaveCake blog.  I ordered rustic environmentally friendly paper bags and made hundreds of bags of regular chocolate brownies with double chocolate, white chocolate chip, chocolate orange and peanut butter brownies.  All in either Gluten free, vegan, gluten free & Vegan as well as the usual contemporary brownies. These brownies are all flavours which are available to buy online on my website havecake.co.uk

I gave out free taster samples and completely sold out of the 300 Gluten Free and Vegan brownies within hours and I had to bake more to avoid disappointment for the next day.  I hadn’t appreciated so many people who were intolerant or avoided both dairy, eggs and wheat would be wandering through the Cake Festival.   Many compliments were received and people were buying bags of Chocolate Mini Egg brownies as something a little more different as Easter Gifts . My good friend  Jason Porter took samples over the local radio show Reverb for a broadcasted taste and review.  The broadcasting studio could be heard sampling and munching away and, considering one of the DJ’s did not even like peanut butter, seemed particularly delighted with the peanut butter brownie version, as did the crowds at the cake festival.

New Flavour!

Hi,

Just launched a new flavour, peanut butter brownies, in Gluten free, Vegan, Gluten Free & Vegan, and the Classic Versions.  I was truly inspired by a most delicious brownie brought back from New York from the famous Magnolia Cake shop as featured in Sex in the City TV programmed.  After eating that brownie I was inspired to create my own version which I have baked in Classic, Gluten Free, Vegan and Gluten Free & Vegan.  You can order these brownies online from http://www.havecake.co.uk. My house mates can’t get enough of the peanut butter chocolate brownies!Image
